Feel & playing guide
How to use · Choose a rhythm
- Classic presets is the built-in rhythm-button bank. Pick a rhythm and press Start. It changes where the drums play, not their sound.
- Iconic Songs opens the song-pattern library. Era performances loads a complete eight-part arrangement, including all three synths.
- Open OLE BIG BEAT to choose a kit or write individual drum hits. A kit changes the drum sounds and keeps your rhythm.
- Save Project downloads everything you have made. Save in Browser keeps one local copy on this browser.
Arrange your song.
Sound = tone settings. Note pattern = one instrument’s notes. Whole-band part = all instruments, kits, loops and mix together. Save your project to keep everything.
Build parts from your instrument patterns
Bring your instrument parts together
Song A uses Dillo A + Telegram A + GreyHound A. Song B uses each instrument’s B, and so on. Your current drum groove, kit combinations, samples and mix stay with every part. Parts expand to fit longer instrument patterns, repeating your edited drum groove for up to four bars.
Preview the instrument patterns
| Song part | Dillo | Telegram | GreyHound |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Big Beat Line | Big Beat Line | Sunset chords |
| B | Planet Rock Roles | Planet Rock Roles | Soft focus |
| C | Acid House | New Wave | Neon stabs |
| D | Warehouse | Pulsing Bass | Six-voice unison |
Uses the patterns stored in those slots, including any unchanged starter patterns. Replaces song parts A–D; E–H stay as they are. Your instrument slots remain available. Undo restores the previous song.
Start variations from only what is playing now
This makes eight identical starting copies. It does not collect the different A–H instrument patterns.
Play, edit and export A–H parts
Write a part. Build a song.
A–H keep Rhythm, Dillo, Telegram and GreyHound together, including your kit combinations, samples and mix. During playback, a part changes on the next phrase.
Edits stay with the current part. Copying replaces the chosen destination; Undo restores it. Start with a preset, a combination, or a blank drum grid. Save all parts keeps an editable project.
Song & whole-band parts Optional · arrange a complete performance
How to use · Build and save a song
- A–H here are eight whole-studio setups: drum pattern and kit, all synth notes and sounds, tempo and mixer. They are separate from the note banks on each synth.
- Choose A and make your intro. Your edits stay in A when you switch away. Choose B and make your verse. Give each a scene name such as Intro or Verse; the name is only a label.
- New projects start with eight copies of one setup, so they sound alike until edited. Use Copy to start another section from your current one, or load an Era performance for eight prepared sections.
- Add song rows in the order you want, choose A–H for each row and set how many rhythm loops it repeats. Play song follows that list. Loop current setup repeats only the setup you are on.
- Write my setup changes records which whole-studio letters you launch into song rows. Record what I hear creates an audio recording instead.
- Edits are kept while the page is open. Save Project downloads the complete song and every memory. Open Project brings it back. Save in Browser is a single local save, not a cloud backup.
Build a song when you’re ready
For a quick jam, just choose a rhythm and press Start. These A–H parts store the whole studio: drums, synth notes, sounds and mix.
New projects start with eight copies of your current setup; they will sound the same until you change them. For ready-made variations, load a complete Era set. Each part remembers rhythm edits, its own Dillo, Telegram and GreyHound sequences, sound and mix. Edits stay in this part. Launches during playback wait for the current phrase to finish. Save Project keeps all eight parts and the song.
Song · program a whole performance
Repeats count whole phrases. Write my setup changes into the song while looping the current setup: each performed phrase is added to the song, including repeated phrases. Stop recording launches before playing the song. Song playback takes a snapshot when you press Start; restart to hear arrangement edits. Changing playback mode stops transport.
Record, import & download Optional · keep or share what you make
“Record what I hear” starts an audio recording of the studio. Play, switch patterns and turn knobs, then finish recording to download your take. It does not just record button selections.
Download audio or MIDI
WAV creates an audio file from your patterns. “Record what I hear” captures your live performance, including knob changes; finish recording to download the take. MIDI saves notes for another instrument or DAW.
WAV includes the mixer and effect tails. MIDI carries notes and tempo, not audio effects. Audio capture records live gestures to the browser’s supported recording format.
ABOUT BIG BEAT STUDIO
An instrument built to be played.
Choose a rhythm and press Start. Explore drum kits, recorded loops and three hardware-inspired synthesizers, then shape your sound at the mixing desk.
Save Project keeps your patterns, sounds and mix in a portable file. Export WAV includes your instruments, loops and effects. Export MIDI lets you take your note patterns into other music software.
